Curriculum Vitae

Yiota Skarveli was born in Sparta. She studied fine arts at the London Metropolitan University (Sir John Cass School of Art) and continued further studies in fine arts at the University of the Arts (Byam Shaw School of Art) London, where she produced and developed the abstract expressionistic style by which she is known today.

She attended the MA course at the Middlesex University, under the supervision of John Thomson.This course shaped her current work with reference on time: “Now in the Past”, “Presence of Absence”.

London became her home for two decades, during which she was actively involved with the contemporary art scene. Her recent work is a series of installations with the title, “The Book of Hours”, “I’ll Show You Fear in a Handful of Dust” it was exhibited at the ACG Art Galleries. She held two personal exhibitions in Athens, “Uncanny I” at the Art Center of the Municipality of Athens (ACMA) in 2000, and “Uncanny II” at the ArTower Galleries of Athens in 2002. Her work has featured in many group exhibitions, the Heiffer Gallery of London in 1989 and 1991, the Polish Cultural Institute of London in 1993, the Highate Art Gallery of London in 1997, “Scenes in Perspective” and “Narcissists and Cannibals” at ArTower Galleries in 2003, “The Rape of Europe” at Luke & A Gallery of London in 2003, “New Order of Things” at ArTower Galleries 2004, “Contemporary Counterparts” at Belltable in Limerick in 2005, “Les Chiens Vagabons” at Booze Cooperativa in 2006, “Moving Art” in Danubius in London in 2006.
