Apostolis Zolotakis

Curriculum Vitae

Apostolis Zolotakis was born in 1963 in Athens. In 1983 he began his studies at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen in the Netherlands. In 1988 he graduated in graphical design and photography and in 1990 in computer graphics, silkscreen and painting. In 1990-1991 he worked as “artist in residence” at SCAN (the former National Institute for Computer Graphics, Animation and Multimedia). Beginning in 1990 he has presented his work in the Netherlands (Design Institute – Amsterdam, “Fort Lux” – IJmuiden, “Van IJ tot Zee” – CSM Amsterdam, Oerol Festival – Terschelling, et al.), where he lives and works, as well as in several European countries, the U.S.A., Australia, Russia and Japan.
He has been exhibiting his work in Greece since 2006 in different galleries and museums. His most recent solo exhibition “Construction – Deconstruction” was in 2011 in the Herakleidon Museum in Athens (curator: A. van der Staaij). In 2010 he presented his installation “Celluloid and Cigarettes”  in Gallery CheapArt in Athens and in 2009 at the Dutch Institute in Athens and the “L. Kanellopoulos” Cultural Centre in Elefsina (“Aischylia 2009”, curator: L. Karapidaki). For this exhibition a book of the work of Zolotakis was made: “Perceptual Code”. This book can be found in the bookstore of the Herakleidon Museum.
The work of Zolotakis is represented in several collections, amongst which the Dutch pinacothecas in Slochteren, Groningen, Delft and in the Centre for visual art in Schiedam. In Greece in the collections of ACG Art Gallery and Move Art. In Japan (Matsue) in the memorial Museum of Koyzumi Yakomo. Besides this his work can be found in different private and state collections in Belgium, Canada, Greece, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, The Netherlands and Portugal.
